Travelling with pets
Transportation of domestic animals is not
permitted on all ferries and hydrofoils. It is therefore vital
that you make a reservation for your pet in order to find out
the conditions and the surcharge. Otherwise you may be stopped
upon embarkation.
As a general rule for those operators accepting pets for
transportation, the animal is placed in kennels or cages on
board. A majority of the operators have these cages outdoors
on open deck - or indoors close to the car deck (mainly
shorter crossings) In some cases, for shorter crossings,
the animal can be lefr in the car during the crossing -
provided there is food and water for the pet and that the
windows are not fully closed.
Hardly ever is the animal allowed to accompany you in the
cabin or in the public indoor areas of the ship.
The owner is responsible for the animal during the crossing.
The master of the ship is the person in charge and also the
person who can change the rules for pet's transportation -
subject to e.g. weather conditions
Ferry Center is not in a position to determine the operator's
policy for transportation of animals. So, is your pet valuable
and needs special care during a voyage, please contact the
operator to find out what possibilities there is to assist
you. Or - leave your pet at home.
